QuarkXPress is a serious production tool. It is for work that has to get done and on deadline. After the words, images and illustrations have been crafted in other applications, agencies, publishers and pre-press houses rely on QuarkXPress to put it all together to produce magazines, books, annual reports and more. When you are in QuarkXPress, you need to work.
And that means you need to work smart and efficiently. You need to save time wherever possible. QX-Tools allows you to save time and money by adding new functionality to QuarkXPress such as the QX-Viewer which allows you to quickly and easily navigate through even the longest documents with ease.
QX-Tools also surfaces many features already available in QuarkXPress, but that are placed in dialog boxes that may not be the most efficient way for you to work. Take QX-Character and QX-Paragraph for example. These are just two XTensions included with QX-Tools Pro that allow you to adjust and fine tune specific character and paragraph attributes visually and in real-time.
Important note: QX-Tools Pro 7 is only compatible with QuarkXpress 7 and not earlier versions.
NEW! in Version 7:
QX-SuperSelect
QX-SuperSelect is a selection tool that provides the ability to make multiple text selections that are not in a single continuous selection and then perform a change to the selected text such as applying a new style.
The benefit of QX-SuperSelect is that it enables you to select multiple words in different places in a document and effect a change on them all at once rather than having to make the selection multiple times and repeating the change (for example a style change).
QX-Underline
QX-Underline will provide users with a greater degree of control over how they use rules and lines in Quark documents to underline words including the ability to define how the underline interacts with descending characters (i.e. think of the following letters: g, j, p, q, y).
The benefit of using QX-Underline is that the Underline Styles command in QuarkXPress 7 does not allow for a high degree of control over your underlines. With this greater control you will have more creative freedom when designing your layout in Quark 7.
QX-Tips&Tricks
QX-Tips&Tricks will provide new and advanced users with some great tips and tricks specifically for QuarkXPress 7 from the Quark guru and editor of Design Tools Monthly, Jay Nelson.
Jay is the author of many best-selling books on QuarkXPress as well as a graphic design instructor with years of experience. Users will benefit from Jay’s insight and tips into QuarkXPress allowing them to get up-to-speed with this new version of Quark faster than ever.
QX-WYSIWYG
QX-WYSIWYG is a palette that displays all of the active fonts in their own typeface in a single palette. Simply select text using the Content tool or the new QX-SuperSelect tool and then double-click on a font in the QX-WYSIWYG font palette to apply that font.
The benefit of using QX-WYWIWYG is you will have an easy place to access all of your active fonts and more importantly, you can see what your fonts look like before you apply them to selected text in the document.
QX-DragAndDrop
QX-DragAndDrop allows you to drag and drop images and documents directly into a QuarkXPress 7 document from the Mac OS X Finder or from Adobe Bridge. Supported files are those that are supported by the Quark Vista XTension.
The benefit of QX-DragAndDrop is that you no longer have to rely on navigating through folders in the Import Text or Import Picture dialog boxes. Simply drag-and-drop files into the Quark document and picture boxes and text boxes will instantly be created and the image or document placed in the document.
Additional features:
QX-Shortcuts
In addition to allowing users to search for existing keyboard shortcuts in Quark 7, this QX-Shortcuts now allows users to create their own keyboard shortcuts or reassign existing Quark keyboard shortcuts.
The benefit of using QX-Shortcuts for new users is that it allows them to quickly find the keyboard shortcuts to make them a power user while experienced users can customize the keyboard shortcuts to their own preference.
QX-FindChange
QX-FindChange has been updated to allow you to queue several find-change commands into a single process. For example, you can configure QX-FindChange to find all picture boxes and change the frame border size and color and also find all double-carriage returns and change them to a single carriage return. QX-FindChange will benefit any user who needs to make several changes at once as they can now do this in one step rather than multiple steps.
QX-ItemStyles
QX-ItemStyles has been updated to that will allow attributes of an item in QuarkXPress to be inherited as a new style entry in the QX-ItemStyles palette. The benefit of QX-ItemStyles is that you can quickly create derivative styles from existing styles without having to re-create the base style.
QX-Viewer
QX-Viewer has been enhanced to add navigation buttons that moves the view to the next or previous page/spread while preserving the page zoom and zoom position.
The benefit of QX-Viewer is that it gives you a large visual representation of your pages in a palette that you can easily navigate through while now allowing you to move quickly to the same place from page to page without having to reposition the view box.
